The Styrian State Library is a public library of the State of Styria in Graz . It is Austria's oldest and largest regional library and was founded in 1812 by Archduke Johann . Its holdings include more than 790,000 media, including Archduke Johann's library and other bequests (including those of Peter Rosegger , Robert Hamerling , Ernst Goll ), numerous valuable manuscripts , more than 80 incunabula , cards, rarities and letters. Her main focus is on the collection, preservation and indexing of Styrian literature. It is open to all strata of the population and tries to meet the demands of a scientific library as well as the needs of the administration and the population.

In the years 2009 to 2011, the holdings of the state library were relocated as a renovation and modernization took place. Scientific work with the collection was still possible. On July 2, 2012, the completely redesigned Styrian State Library was reopened at the old location in the new Joanneum Quarter.
