Historical Provincial Commission for Styria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Historical Provincial Commission for Styria (HLK) is a scientific society in Graz , which has the task of researching the history of the Austrian state of Styria and publishing relevant results.

organization

The chairman of the HLK is the governor of Styria. The management is held by an honorary executive secretary. The Scientific College consists of a maximum of 30 members who are appointed for life (members who have passed the age of 70 are not included in the number of members). In addition, the HLK also appoints correspondents who work in the individual regions of Styria.

history

The HLK was founded on the initiative of Hans Zwiedineck-Südhorst , who was also the initiator of the Commission for Modern History of Austria , in the spring of 1892 by resolution of the Styrian Landtag and was thus the first comparable institution in Austria and after the Historical Commission for Saxony (1876) , the Baden Commission for State History (1883) and the Württemberg Commission for State History (1891) the fourth oldest in the German-speaking region.

From 1936 an expansion, including 14 specialist groups, and a fundamental reorganization of the HVAC into a "Styrian State Historical Research Center" were planned, but this was not implemented after the connection in 1938 . After the war, a re-establishment took place under Provincial Councilor Udo Illig and in 1958 the statutes were revised.

In 1994, the tasks and organization of the HVAC were set out in a state law.
