Benno Roth

Benno Roth OSB (born March 25, 1903 in Riesa ; † January 6, 1983 in Seckau , Styria ) was an Austrian father of the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau as well as an educator and church historian .

Life

Despite his birthplace in Saxony , he came from an old Austrian family and became an oblate pupil in the Styrian Benedictine Abbey of Seckau and entered the monastery as a novice after graduating from high school . In 1929 he was ordained a priest . He has a PhD in history. From 1934 to 1972, apart from interruptions due to the war, he was Professor of German and History at the Abbey High School in Seckau. Father Benno Roth worked all his life on publications on church, religious and local history. Since 1946 he was a member of the Historical State Commission for Styria .
