Franz Ilwof

Franz Ilwof (born September 4, 1831 in Graz , † May 21, 1916 ibid) was an Austrian pedagogue , legal scholar and local researcher .

Life

Ilwof came from a Russian family naturalized in Austria. He studied at the University of Graz . There he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He passed the teaching examination for history, geography and German studies in Vienna. He then went to the teaching post in 1855. He returned to Graz and was awarded Dr. iur. PhD.

Ilwof was the city school inspector from 1869 to 1874. In addition, in 1869 he became an honorary lecturer in political science at the Graz University of Technology , an office that he held until 1908. During this time he was also a member of the State Examination Commission for Surveying Geometers for the field of administrative law and a member of the State Science Examination Commission. In addition, in 1869 he became a member of the board of directors of the mutual fire damage insurance company.

Ilwof was a member of the municipal council from 1870 to 1875 and also a city ​​councilor in Graz in 1870/71 . From 1874 to 1880 he represented the municipality in the Styrian state school board . In addition, from 1875 to 1890 he held the position of director at the Landes-Oberrealschule in Graz . In 1886 he was awarded the title of Government Councilor. Ilwof was a founding member of the Historical Commission for Styria (HLK) from 1892 until his death and also a member of its standing committee from 1892 to 1901. In 1902 he was appointed vice-president of the mutual fire damage insurance company .

He donated his library of around 4,000 volumes to the university library of the Technical University in Graz.

Ilwof contributed various articles to the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB) as well as to the historical magazines for Styria. In addition, published among others:
