Dietmar Günther

Dietmar Günther (* 1961 or 1962) is a German basketball coach and former player. He has been temporarily head coach of the second division Phoenix Hagen since September 2017 . As a player, he wore the shirt of BC Osnabrück, Goldstar and Brandt Hagen and MTV Gießen in the Bundesliga basketball league .

career

Günther played at BC Osnabrück in the basketball league , in 1987 the playmaker switched to MTV 1846 Gießen and stayed with the Bundesliga club until 1989. He ran in the 1988/89 season for SSV GoldStar Hagen and from 1990 to 1992 for the successor club Brandt Hagen also in the Bundesliga.

From 1995 to 1997 he was  assistant trainer in the Bundesliga under Peter Krüsmann at Brandt Hagen and was then active for years as a trainer for BG Hagen, BBV Hagen and from 2006 to 2010 as a trainer for the Phoenix Hagen U19 team , which he joined the German team in 2007 Runner-up led. Günther was then a member of the supervisory board of Phoenix Hagen GmbH and Basketball Hagen GmbH & Co. KGaA, as well as advising Phoenix Hagen on sporting matters.

In September 2017 he temporarily took over the position of head coach for the men's team from Phoenix Hagen in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , replacing the sick Matthias Grothe . Grothe died at the end of October 2017, Günther gave up the coaching position on December 18, 2017 at his own request.

Günther is the father of basketball players Philip Günther, Per Günther  and Jasper Günther .
