The Graz Mutual Insurance Aktiengesellschaft (short: GRAWE ) is an Austrian insurance group based in Graz .
history
The GRAWE was founded on July 14th 1828 as "kk privileged inner-Austrian fire damage insurance institute for Styria , Carinthia and Carniola " by Archduke Johann as (originally pure) fire insurance . “Reliable insurance protection for everyone” was his goal, the principle that applied to him back then (as it is today throughout the group): “In the harmony of many lies the power that brings about good. It is everyone's responsibility to contribute! "
Group coverage
GRAWE is now the sixth largest insurance group in Austria. GRAWE has subsidiaries in Central and Eastern European countries: Slovenia , Croatia , Serbia , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Montenegro , Macedonia , Hungary , Ukraine , Bulgaria , Romania , Moldova and Cyprus .
In addition to the insurance sector, real estate management , banks and various investment and holding companies are also integrated in the group.

GRAWE has merged with Kärntner Landesversicherung , Niederösterreichische Versicherung , Oberösterreichische Versicherung , Tiroler Versicherung and Vorarlberger Landesversicherung to form the Association of Austrian State Insurers (VÖL). The aim of the network is to use synergies and strengthen the position as a domestic insurer.
