history

On January 23, 1811, King Maximilian I of Bavaria ordered the establishment of a “general fire insurance company” for the Kingdom of Bavaria. In addition to Salzburg (federal state) and parts of the Hausruckviertel, this also included the Innviertel , which fell into Upper Austria with the Treaty of Teschen in 1779 , but was again incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria by Napoleon Bonaparte . On April 1, 1811, the house’s first known policy was issued.

In 1877, the then "Upper Austrian Mutual State Fire Damage Insurance Company" introduced the so-called movable insurance, the forerunner of today's household insurance . In the same year reinsurance was introduced as a separate line of business.

In 1932, as a consequence of the so-called “fire epidemic” of the 1930s, the “State Fire Damage” founded the “State Commission for Fire Prevention” as a forerunner of today's fire prevention agency.

In 1952, the Upper Austrian developed the first product for storm damage insurance on the Austrian insurance market.

In 1962, the fire damage decided to introduce the motor vehicle lines and all other essential damage insurance lines due to the increasing mobilization in the population.

In 1974, today's General Directorate was established in Gruberstrasse in Linz and subsequently expanded in 1990 and most recently in 2015.

In 1977 life insurance was introduced , which today represents the company's second major economic pillar alongside property / casualty insurance.

In 1984 the Upper Austrian founded its regional offices in Leoben for Styria and in 1991 the one in Salzburg .

In 1994, what was then OÖ Landes-Brandschaden as a mutual insurance association outsourced its insurance operations to a stock corporation .

In 2007, what was then HV Hanauer Versicherungsservice AG in Hanau , Germany, has been taken over since 2014 as "Broker Service Germany", primarily in the property insurance sector.
