Rochus Kohlbach

Rochus Kohlbach (born August 13, 1892 in Hirschegg , Styria , † February 14, 1964 in Graz ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman, writer and art historian.

Life

Kohlbach received his doctorate in theology in 1927 . He then did a further training in journalism with Friedrich Funder in Vienna . In 1938 he became custodian at the Diözesanmuseum Graz and had to resign from this position after Austria was annexed to Germany. He was then interned for about three months in Mauthausen concentration camp and was then allowed to work as a pastor in Autal near Graz and in Sankt Martin am Wöllmißberg . In 1946 he was appointed cathedral capitular and was the cathedral priest in Graz Cathedral from 1946 to 1962 . From 1960 to 1964 he was again director of the Diocesan Museum.

Kohlbach was chairman of the Diocesan Art Council of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau . He was a member of the State Historical Commission for Styria . On May 30, 1937 he was a founding member of the Catholic Austrian Landsmannschaft Ferdinandea zu Graz.

Kohlbach was buried in the cemetery in Hirschegg.
