Werner Tscherne

Werner Tscherne (born June 30, 1927 in Graz ; † December 6, 2017 ) was an Austrian teacher , publicist and historian who devoted himself particularly to the history of southern and western Styria .

Life

Werner Tscherne completed his studies in history and geography with a doctorate in philosophy in 1948; when he received his doctorate in 1949, he was considered the youngest doctor in Austria. From September 12, 1949, he worked as a teacher at the Groß Sankt Florian secondary school , from 1953 at the then boys' secondary school and from 1965 as a professor at the BORG in Deutschlandsberg. From 1973 he was a lecturer at the Federal Pedagogical Academy in Graz. In 1983 he was awarded the professional title of "Senior Student Councilor" and worked as an archivist for the Deutschlandsberg district .

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he also supported regional cultural initiatives. He was the founding chairman of the Pölfing-Brunn cultural association and an honorary member of the Historical Association for Styria, and since 2001 a member of the State Historical Commission for Styria . He was also available as a tour guide and on-site as a lecturer on excursions and further training events and answered questions from young students as a contemporary witness.
