Johann "Hans" Pirchegger (born August 30, 1875 in Graz , Styria , † October 1, 1973 there ) was an Austrian historian .

Life

Hailing from a poor Hans Pirchegger, son of railroad worker Simon Pirchegger and its Spouse, the tobacconist Josepha born Koschier, studying history and geography turned to the filed Matura at the University of Graz for which he in 1899 with the promotion of Dr. phil. completed. In the following year Pirchegger took up a position as a teacher of history and geography at the grammar school in Pettau , in 1907 he moved to the state secondary school in Lichtenfels in Graz, and in 1935 he was ceremoniously retired.

Pirchegger completed his habilitation in 1916 at the University of Graz for Austrian history with special attention to the history of Inner Austria , in 1923 he was appointed titular-associate professor, in 1937 as titular-full professor, in 1939 as adjunct professor, in 1945 he was retired . He was a member of the Historical Commission for Styria , the Historical Association for Styria , the Association of Austrian History Associations and the History Association for Carinthia .

Hans Pirchegger, who made a special contribution to the history of Styria , was awarded the Ring of Honor of the City of Graz, the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria, and in 1943 the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Prize . He was also a citizen of the city of Graz .

Pirchegger died on October 1, 1973 at the age of 98; the farewell took place on October 4, 1973 in the fire hall of the city of Graz.
