Arnold Busson

Arnold Busson (born May 28, 1844 in Münster , † July 7, 1892 in Graz ) was a German-Austrian historian .

Life

Busson studied history at the University of Innsbruck after graduating from high school in Münster and became a member of the Corps Athesia Innsbruck . Julius Ficker was one of his academic teachers in Innsbruck . In 1863 he moved to the University of Göttingen . He heard economics lectures from Georg Waitz and Johann von Helferich . In 1866 he was in Göttingen with a thesis on the double election of 1256/57 at Georg Waitz to Dr. phil. PhD. He went to the University of Berlin and became a member of the Historical Society headed by Johann Gustav Droysen .

At the University of Innsbruck Busson became a private lecturer (1867), associate professor (1871) and in 1872 full professor for general history. In 1886/87 he was rector . In 1891 he followed the call of the University of Graz to its chair for general history.

In his historical research Busson worked in particular on the German and Italian history of the 13th and 14th centuries. He made important contributions to numismatics and heraldry in Tyrol .

Arnold Busson was married to Emma geb. Ney . Two of his children were the writer and journalist Paul Busson and the mining engineer and lawyer Felix Busson .
