Ferdinand Bilger (historian)
Ferdinand Bilger (born September 17, 1875 in Innsbruck , † April 29, 1949 in Graz ) was an Austrian historian .
Life
Bilger was born the son of an inn owner who died in 1881, so that Ferdinand Bilger moved to Vienna at the age of 12 . One of his teachers there was Josef Pommer , who belonged to the Silesia Vienna fraternity . This student union joined Bilger during his studies. 1903 Bilger at the University of Vienna to Dr. iur. PhD . From 1905 to 1907 he attended the Institute for Austrian Historical Research . In 1907 he went to Heidelberg , where he worked on the German legal dictionary . In 1910 he became a member of the board of the Burschenschaftlichen historical commission . In 1911 he moved to Graz, where his wife Margit (1874–1933), b. Matthéy-Guenet, lived. In Graz he was a board member of the Landeszeughaus and until 1935 as secretary of the Landesmuseum Joanneum . In 1921 he completed his habilitation at the University of Graz. In 1931 he became a member of the State Historical Commission for Styria . In 1931 he became associate professor at the University of Graz and in 1935 associate professor of modern history . In 1946, for reasons of age emeritus . Although he was German national and partly anti - Semitic , he was considered a "Jew friend" according to Maria Inzko during the Nazi era .
His children are Margret Bilger , Ferdinand Bilger and Irmtraut Ring-Bilger.
