Karl Uhlirz (born June 13, 1854 in Vienna , † March 22, 1914 in Graz ) was an Austrian historian of medieval history.

Theodor Sickel's student received his training at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research . From 1877 to 1882 he was Sickel's employee at the Monumenta Germaniae Historica in Vienna, where he worked on the large edition of the imperial documents of the 10th century. His fundamental study of the well-known forgery of documents by Bishop Pilgrims von Passau (1882) emerged from this activity , then the history of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg under the Saxon emperors (1887). In 1902 the first volume of the year books of the German Empire appeared under Otto II and Otto III. It is the last comprehensive appreciation of Otto II's person and rule as king and emperor to this day. From 1882 to 1903 Uhlirz was an archivist in Vienna. During his archivist activity he dealt with the history of Vienna and the development of the urban system. The "sources on the history of Vienna" emerged from this. From 1903 Uhlirz taught as a professor for Austrian history at the University of Graz . Since 1903 he was a member of the Historical State Commission for Styria and since 1904 a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences . His daughter Mathilde Uhlirz continued her father's work.

In 1954, Uhlirzgasse in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
