Renate Pieper

Renate Pieper (born December 21, 1956 in Geseke ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1978 to 1984 she studied medieval and modern history, Spanish and economics in Cologne and Seville . In 1983 she obtained her master's degree in history and Spanish in Cologne and in 1984 her diploma in economics in Cologne. After her doctorate in 1987 in Cologne and her habilitation in 1994 for modern history, Spanish and Latin American history in Hamburg , she taught from 1994 to 1997 as a private lecturer in modern history with a special focus on Iberian and Latin American history. Since 1998 she has been teaching as a full professor for economic and social history at the University of Graz .

Her research areas are the economic and cultural history of the early modern period, the Spanish Empire and its European connections, in particular: cultural exchange, communication media and networks, mining, prices and public finances.
