location

Friedrich-Ebert-Allee forms the western border of the settlement; some houses in the settlement are also on its western side. The Aachen-Cologne railway runs north of the settlement and the Gillesbach flows east of the settlement . The Branderhofer Weg forms the southern border of the settlement.

history

Buildings (black) and trees (green) of the “In den Heimgärten” estate in Aachen in 1925

The settlement was built from 1926 to 1929 as a housing estate.

In 2005, the estate was placed under monument protection as an ensemble, making it the first of the listed areas in Aachen . The monument area also includes the green space adjacent to the north and east of the settlement up to the embankment and the Gillesbach.

description

The settlement is accessed through several streets. Friedrich-Ebert-Allee and the street Im Gillesbachtal surround the settlement from the outside. Due to the curved course of the road in the Gillesbachtal, they together form a horseshoe shape. In the central axis of the horseshoe runs the street In den Heimgärten, after which the entire settlement is currently named. You come across the Weingartsberg street running across Friedrich-Ebert-Allee and Im Gillesbachtal. At the meeting point of the two streets there is a rectangular square, the Weingartshof.

The streets are lined with groups of terraced houses.

In addition to the monument protection as a monument area, the house in Gillesbachtal 28 is registered as an independent architectural monument in Aachen's list of monuments.

Conservation and development

The city of Aachen has passed various statutes to maintain and develop the settlement.
