Paul Werner Roth

Paul Werner Roth (born January 11, 1941 in Graz ; † July 29, 2001 there ) was an Austrian historian .

Life

Paul Werner Roth was born on January 11, 1941 in Graz. After studying history , ancient history , German literature and philosophy at the Karl-Franzens University , he received his doctorate in 1966. phil. In Graz.

First, Roth worked in the Department of Prehistory and Early History in the Coin Collection Department at the Graz State Museum Joanneum . Roth began his university career in 1970 as an assistant at the Institute for Economic and Social History at the University of Graz. In 1976 he completed his habilitation . In 1980 Roth was appointed associate professor and in 2000 full professor at the Graz History Institute.

From 1985 until his death he headed the department for the history of industry, technology and mining at the Institute for History at the University of Graz. In the subject of mining history, he was also a lecturer at the Montanuniversität Leoben .

Paul Roth was also involved in research in Transylvania on a voluntary basis .

Paul Werner Roth was the brother of the writer Gerhard Roth .
