The University of Shkodra Luigj Gurakuqi is a state university in the Albanian city of Shkodra with 11,500 students and 710 academic staff. It was founded in 1957 as the second university of education in  Albania. In 1991 it received the status of a full university and was named after the writer Luigj Gurakuqi , who had made a name for himself in language and educational politics. In the following years the following faculties were founded:

  • Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Economics
  • Faculty of Law
  • Faculty of Foreign Languages

Cooperations

The university is a member of the network of Balkan universities .

In addition to various cooperation agreements with universities in Europe and the United States, there has been close cooperation with the Northwestern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences since 2005 .
