The University of Durrës (full name University Aleksandër Moisiu Durrës ; Albanian  Universiteti "Aleksandër Moisiu" Durrës ) is a state university in the central Albanian port city of Durrës . It started operations in 2006. The university is named after the Austrian actor of Albanian origin Alexander Moissi , who spent his childhood in Durrës, among other places.

history

Already in the Middle Ages there was a theological university of the Dominicans with Studium generale in Durrës . The Universitas Studiorum Dyrrhachium was founded around 1380. However, in 1396 it was closed again and the successor was reopened in the Venetian town of Zadar . There she was safer from the expanding Ottomans .

Campus building outside the city (2014)

In 2005 the Albanian government decided to found the university. Operations began in October 2006 when the first academic year began in 2006/07. Lessons were held in a building in the city center on the promenade (currila), which is now the main building. In 2013 a new campus was opened in an open field east of the Spitalla district . In 2008, with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation, the Faculty for Studies with Practical Integration ( Faculty i Studimeve të Integruara me Praktikën) was founded. There are courses in bank management, hotel management and business administration that combine theory and practical work. The factories building is east of the center towards Shkozet . World icon
