history

Sports training in Albania began in 1948 when the Technical Center for Fiskultur was founded in Tirana , where teachers received sports training. In 1958, a sports department was set up in the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana , which had just opened .

In 1960 an independent institute was founded, named after Vojo Kushi , an Albanian and Yugoslav partisan , which offered a three-year training course. From 1971 the college was called Instituti i Lartë i Kulturës Fizike "Vojo Kushi" . Since 1993 the training has lasted four years.

In 2010 the university was renamed Akademia e Edukimit Fizik dhe Sporteve "Vojo Kushi" . In 2010 it was upgraded to a university with a full university curriculum .

As part of the "Draft Pact for the University" (Alb. Draft-Pakti për Universitetin ), which was decided by the Albanian government at the end of 2018 after massive student protests , according to the Minister for Education, Sport and Youth Besa Shahini should also go to the sports university Tirana investments flow. However, at the time of this declaration in July 2019, there were no concrete plans.
