The University of Elbasan (full name University Aleksandër Xhuvani Elbasan , Albanian  Universiteti "Aleksandër Xhuvani" Elbasan ) is a state-supported university in the central Albanian city of Elbasan . It was founded in 1971 as the educational training center Institut i Lartë Pedagogjik Aleksandër Xhuvani and converted into a university in 1991. The university is named after the educator and philologist Aleksandër Xhuvani (* 1880, † 1961).

On May 21, 2012, eleven university students and two companions lost their lives on an excursion when their coach came off the road near Himara and crashed into a ravine.
