Honoris causa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Honoris causa ( Latin 'honorary', abbreviated hc , formerly also eh ) is used to identify degrees , designations and titles awarded as awards , which are thus differentiated from regularly acquired designations (academic degrees, official titles / designations). In some cases, the distinction is only historical, since the “regular” dignity is no longer awarded.

If a person has received several (at least two) awards, the abbreviation is hc mult. common, which stands for honoris causa multiplex , i.e. multiple awards.

The best known is probably the honorary doctorate , usually abbreviated as Dr. hc In Austria , the phrase can also be found in various professional titles , for example in Baurat hc and Bergrat hc
