Samuel Olof Påhlsson (born December 17, 1977 in Ånge ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played 884 games for the Boston Bruins , Anaheim Ducks , Chicago Blackhawks , Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks in the course of his active career between 1994 and 2015 of the National Hockey League and 448 others for his home club MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik and Frölunda HC in the Elitserien on the position of the center . Påhlsson celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Anaheim Ducks by winning the Stanley Cup in 2007 and in the jersey of the Swedish national team with the Olympic victory at the 2006 Winter Olympics .
Career
Påhlsson started his professional career at MoDo Hockeyklubb in Sweden . In the 1996 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Colorado Avalanche at number 176. However, he was immediately transferred to the Boston Bruins together with Brian Rolston , Martin Grenier and a first-round suffrage for the NHL Entry Draft 2000 . After 17 games for the Bruins, Samuel Påhlsson was given to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in November of the same year in exchange for Andrei Nasarow and Patrick Traverse .
During the 2004/05 lockout , Påhlsson played at Frölunda HC in his home country . There he won the Swedish championship and was elected to the league's all-star team. In the 2006/07 season , Påhlsson won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks .
Påhlsson and his two wingers, Travis Moen and Rob Niedermayer , played a major role in winning the cup for the California franchise. In recognition of his season and playoff performances, Samuel Påhlsson was nominated for the Frank J. Selke Trophy of the 2006/07 season. This trophy is awarded annually to the most defensive striker.
Samuel Påhlsson plays in the Swedish national team and won the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics .
Påhlsson was the captain of MODO between 2012 and 2014 and was assistant captain in his last professional season 2014/15. He ended his career on April 16, 2015.
