Robert Wade Niedermayer junior (born December 28, 1974 in Cassiar Country , British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 1269 games for the Florida Panthers , Calgary Flames , Anaheim Ducks , New Jersey between 1990 and 2012 Devils and Buffalo Sabers played in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . His older brother Scott Niedermayer and his cousin Jason Strudwick were also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Rob Niedermayer was selected in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the first round in fifth position by the Florida Panthers . At that time he was playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League . He began his NHL career without ever having played in a minor league . Niedermayer injured himself after his best season (1995/96, 61 scorer points) and could never surpass it. From then on, his role was more limited to that of a defensive striker.

On July 23, 2001, Niedermayer was transferred together with a draft pick from Florida to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Waleri Bure and Jason Wiemer . He did not stay there long, shortly before the end of the transfer period, he moved to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2003 . With them he reached the Stanley Cup final. For him it was the second time, but this time too, Niedermayer's team lost - albeit just a little - in the seventh game of the series against the New Jersey Devils , for whose team Rob's brother Scott Niedermayer played.
During the lockout NHL season 2004/05 he completed five games for the TC Ferencváros Budapest in Hungary . In the summer of 2005, his brother Scott was signed by the Ducks. From then on, the Niedermayers played together in a team for the first time in their NHL career. This season they reached the Conference finals and lost 4-1 to the Edmonton Oilers . The following year the two brothers won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks. They were the first successful brother couple since Brent and Duane Sutter , who won the 1983 trophy with the New York Islanders .
Shortly before the start of the 2009/10 season , he signed a contract with the New Jersey Devils as a free agent . The Canadian scored 22 points and left New Jersey after a year for Buffalo and signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers . 2 July 2011 Niedermayer received a contract for one year at HC Lugano of the Swiss National League A . In the summer of 2012 he finally ended his active career.
International
Niedermayer represented his home country at the Junior World Championships in 1993 as well as the World Championships in 1999 and 2004 . At the Junior World Championships in 1993 he contributed two assists to the gold medal win of the Canadian selection . At the 2004 World Cup, the striker contributed two goals and four assists for Canada to win the World Cup. In the final against Sweden , he scored the equalizer to 3: 3 and gave the template, which Matt Cooke used for the 5: 3 winning goal.
