Jason Wayne Strudwick (* 17th July 1975 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1993 to 2012 among other 681 games for the New York Islanders , Vancouver Canucks , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . His cousins Scott and Rob Niedermayer were also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Jason Strudwick began his career as a hockey player with the Kamloops Blazers , for which he was active from 1993 to 1995 in the Western Hockey League and with whom he won the President's Cup as WHL champion in 1994 and 1995 and then the Memorial Cup as champion of Canadian Hockey League won. During this time he was selected in the third round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft as the 63rd player in total by the New York Islanders , for which he only played 18 games in the National Hockey League from 1995 to 1998 and instead mainly for their farm team , the Kentucky Thoroughblades from the American Hockey League , stood on the ice. On March 23, 1998, the defender was given in exchange for Gino Odjick from the Islanders to the Vancouver Canucks , for which he played regularly in the NHL in the following four seasons.
After he was active for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2002 to 2004 , Strudwick bridged the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season in the Hungarian ice hockey league together with his cousin Rob Niedermayer at Ferencváros Budapest . After resumption of the gaming operation in the NHL the links Sagittarius signed before the Games period 2005/06 a contract with the New York Rangers , which he left already after only one year in order for the HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A to play. During the 2006/07 season , however, Strudwick returned to New York, where he was active for the Rangers until 2008, before he got a contract with the Edmonton Oilers in his hometown on July 10, 2008 as a free agent .
The defender stayed with the Oilers for three seasons. He then let his career end in the 2011/12 season at Södertälje SK in the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan . After the season, Strudwick ended his active career at the age of 36.
