Gino Odjick (born September 7, 1970 in Maniwaki , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who has played in the National Hockey League for the Vancouver Canucks , New York Islanders , Philadelphia Flyers and Montréal Canadiens, among others .

Career

In the 1990 NHL Entry Draft , Odjick was selected in the fifth round as the 86th player by the Vancouver Canucks . He had previously won the Coupe du Président with the Laval Titan in 1989 and 1990 . At the Canucks he was used in his preferred role as an enforcer . In the following eight years he was a regular player and an integral part of the team's system. In the 1996/97 season he set his personal best with 371 penalty minutes in the regular season. His regular season with the highest points he had in 1993/94 , when Odjick scored 29 points in 76 NHL games. Odjick holds the Vancouver Canucks franchise record for most penalty minutes with 2204 penalty minutes.

In March 1998, Odjick was swapped for Jason Strudwick by the New York Islanders . There he did not get anywhere near as many penalty minutes as before in Vancouver, but continued to fill the task of the enforcer. In February 2000 he moved to the Philadelphia Flyers . In the 2000/01 season he came to only 30 games for the Montreal Canadiens , as a wrist injury forced him to take a break for several months. In August 2002 he suffered a head injury in training camp and was out of play for the entire 2002/03 season .
