Hans Georg Hermann Bluntschli (born February 19, 1877 in Frankfurt am Main , † July 13, 1962 in Bern , reformed , resident in Zurich ) was a Swiss anatomist .

Life

Hans BLUNTSCHLI, son of Alfred Friedrich BLUNTSCHLI , took after graduation , a study of medicine at the Universities of Zurich , Munich , Heidelberg and Leipzig in which he in 1903 in Heidelberg with the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. med. completed. As a result, held Hans BLUNTSCHLI assistantships at Max Fürbringer at the Anatomical Institute in Heidelberg and at Georg Ruge in Zurich before settling there in 1906 with a comparative study of Arterienvarietäten in Old World monkeys of Anatomy and Developmental History habilitated .

After Hans Bluntschli initially held a lectureship and later an associate professorship in Zurich , he was appointed prosector and director at the Dr. Senckenberg Anatomical Institute was appointed to Frankfurt , where he was appointed titular professor in 1915 and full professor of anatomy and development history in 1919. When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Bluntschli was targeted by the local party organs. A staff member and right-wing students had complained about statements critical of the regime by Bluntschli and accused him of embezzling research funds. Bluntschli was able to refute some of the allegations, but came under increasing pressure and in October 1933 accepted a chair in anatomy in Bern , which avoided dismissal under the law to restore the civil service . He stayed at the Bern chair until his retirement in 1942.

Hans Bluntschli, who received an honorary doctorate from the University of Frankfurt in 1949 - he married Anna, born in 1906, Bavier from Chur - died on July 13, 1962 at the age of 85 in Bern.

Hans Bluntschli - he undertook research trips to the Amazon region (1912–1913) and Madagascar (1931–1932) - carried out comparative anatomical studies on the one hand, and compiled comparative primatological studies on the other hand, as well as contributions to functional morphology and the tribal history of the New World monkeys . He left behind extensive primatological collections. His estate is kept in the Bluntschli family archive in the Zurich Central Library. He was a member of the Zurich Masonic Lodge Modestia cum Libertate .
