Udo Benzenhöfer

Udo Benzenhöfer (* 1957 in Pforzheim ) is a German medical historian , doctor, university professor and non-fiction author .

biography

After the end of his school career, Benzenhöfer studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg from 1976 to 1983 , where he received his doctorate in 1983 with a medical history topic. med. received his doctorate . At the same time, he began studying German and philosophy in Heidelberg in 1981. Because of his community service time, which he performed as a doctor, he had to study interrupt the meantime, finishing his second degree in 1988. In Heidelberg he was in 1988 with a alchemical-medical dissertation Dr. phil. PhD. He then got a job as an assistant at the Department of Medical History at the Medical University of Hanover , where he qualified as a professor for the history of medicine in 1991 and was active as a private lecturer and acting director of the history of medicine department. In 1996 he was appointed associate professor at the Hannover Medical School. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a research assistant at the Medical History Institute of the University of Bonn . At the beginning of October 2004 he was appointed full professor for the history and ethics of medicine at the medical faculty of the University of Frankfurt am Main , where he is director of the Senckenberg Institute for the history and ethics of medicine.

His main research interests are Paracelsus , medicine under National Socialism , the history and ethics of " euthanasia " and euthanasia as well as the history of Frankfurt university medicine .
