The Titan de Laval ( English Laval Titan ) were a Canadian junior ice hockey team from Laval in the province of Québec , which played between 1971 and 1998 in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ).
history
The franchise was founded in 1969 in Rosemont , a suburb of Montréal , where it initially took part in the LHJMQ's gaming operations under the name National de Rosemont . After two seasons, the team moved within the league to nearby Laval in 1971, where it played under different names for the next 27 years. The original name in Laval was National de Laval (Eng. Laval Nationals ), which was first changed in 1979 to Voisins de Laval (Eng. Laval Voisins ) and 1985 in Titan de Laval.
From 1994 the name became Titan Collège Français de Laval (English Laval Titan Collège Français ) when the LHJMQ franchise of the Collège Français de Verdun was dissolved as part of a merger with the Titan de Laval. As a result of the “merger”, the team in Laval received additional support from sponsors and from the management of the former Verdun team. In 1998 the Titan de Laval were relocated to Bathurst in the province of New Brunswick , where they have since played in the LHJMQ under the name Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst .
The team was successful during their time in Laval: they won the Coupe du Président four times and made it to the Memorial Cup finals five times .
