history
The arrondissement goes back to the village of Côte-de-la-Visitation, which became an independent municipality in 1870. In 1885, Petite-Côte separated and formed a second municipality. Around 1900 the Canadian Pacific Railway built a depot there . She entrusted the real estate agent Ucal-Henri Dandurand with the acquisition of the property. In 1905, Petite-Côte was renamed Rosemont. The new name is reminiscent of Rose Philipps, Dandurand's mother. In 1910, Côte-de-la-Visitation and Petite-Côte merged with Montreal.
La Petite-Patrie describes the densely populated southern part of the arrondissement. Until the end of the 19th century, this area was used almost exclusively for agriculture, with the exception of a few limestone quarries. The name caught on in the 1980s. It is based on the 1972 novel La Petite Patrie (Die kleine Heimat) by Claude Jasmin , who became famous from 1974 to 1976 through the television series of the same name.
