Steven Finn (born August 20, 1966 in Laval , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 748 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings in national hockey during his active career between 1982 and 1998 League (NHL) on the position of defender . In the 1990/91 season he was together with Joe Sakic the eighth team captain in the franchise history of the Nordiques de Québec.
Career
Finn first spent his junior years from 1982 to 1985 with the Voisins de Laval in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ). There the defender won the Coupe du Président , the championship trophy of the LHJMQ, with the team in 1984 . In the same year he was also appointed to the League's First All-Star Team and selected in the third round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft in 57th place by the Nordiques de Québec from the National Hockey League (NHL). Finn got his first impressions in the professional field after the end of the LHJMQ season 1984/85 when he went on the ice in ten games for Québec's farm team Fredericton Express in the American Hockey League (AHL).
The following game year, the 19-year-old started with the Nordiques in the NHL, but was sent back to the LHJMQ during the course of the season, where his junior team now operated under the name Titan de Laval . In the 1986/87 season Finn dared to try again in the professional field and then commuted between the cadres of the AHL farm team in Fredericton and the NHL squad of the Nordiques. It was not until the 1987/88 season that the defender managed to establish himself in the NHL. With his mixture of aggressiveness, tenacity and devotion, Finn developed into a regular player who ensured stability on the defensive and was also able to block a variety of shots. These qualities gave him the appointment of the eighth team captain in the Nordiques franchise history before the 1990/91 season . He shared the post this season with Joe Sakic . Overall, the defensive player spent ten years in the Québec organization before the franchise was relocated to Denver in the US state of Colorado before the 1995/96 season , where it continued playing under the name Colorado Avalanche . Finn completed over 600 games for the Franco-Canadian team during this period.
For the Avalanche, however, the Canadian did not play any games, since he was given in October 1995 in exchange for a four-round vote in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning . However, Finn only wore the Lightning jersey for 16 games, as he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings in November of the same year . For this Michel Petit moved to Tampa. At the Los Angeles Kings Finn finished the game year and was also a fixture of the team in the 1996/97 season . The season 1997/98 Finn finally played in the International Hockey League (IHL) with the Long Beach Ice Dogs , where he let his career end, which he declared after the season at the age of 32 for over.
