Joseph Jean-François Vineet Beauchemin (born June 4, 1980 in Sorel , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1,004 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Columbus Blue Jackets , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim or Anaheim Ducks , Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche on the position of defender . With the Ducks, Beauchemin won the Stanley Cup in 2007 .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender played for the Titan Collège Français de Laval , the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst and the Moncton Wildcats in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec before becoming the 75th player in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft was selected in the third round by the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League .
Until his NHL debut for the Canadiens in the 2002/03 season, he was both for the AHL - farm teams Citadelles de Québec and Hamilton Bulldogs and for the Mississippi Sea Wolves in the East Coast Hockey League on the ice. On February 27, 2003, Beauchemin completed his first and at the same time last game against the Minnesota Wild for the Canadiens in the highest North American professional league.
In September 2004, the left shooter moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets , but due to the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , he was initially only used in the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. During the 2005/06 season , the Canadian was finally transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim together with Tyler Wright in exchange for Sergei Fyodorov , for which he was also on the ice in the 2006/07 season under the new name Anaheim Ducks and also in won the Stanley Cup this season .
In the 2008/09 season , Beauchemin came to only 20 games in the regular season for the Ducks, as he had to suspend almost the entire season of play due to a knee injury. On July 6, 2009, he signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent . In the 2009/10 season , Beauchemin completed all 82 regular season games, but the Maple Leafs missed qualifying for the playoffs. In February 2011, Beauchemin returned to Anaheim as the Maple Leafs gave him to the Californians in a swap deal for Joffrey Lupul , Jake Gardiner and a four-round vote for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft .
In January 2012, the Canadian, who now formed a defender pair with Cam Fowler , extended his contract with the Anaheim Ducks by three years until the end of the 2014/15 season. The median annual salary for the defense attorney during this period was approximately $ 3.5 million. The defender succeeded in being appointed to the NHL Second All-Star Team at the end of the 2012/13 season . After this contract expired after the 2014/15 season, Beauchemin joined the Colorado Avalanche in July 2015 and also signed a three-year contract there. However, this was ended by the Avalanche after two years when they paid out his remaining contract year in June 2017 (buy-out) . The defender then returned to Anaheim in August 2017, before announcing the official end of his playing career in April 2018 - a few weeks before his 38th birthday.
International
Beauchemin took part in the 2010 World Cup in Germany as a member of the Canadian national team. As an assistant captain , he was on the ice in seven encounters and made one assist. The maple leaves finished the tournament outside of the medal ranks in seventh place.
