Claude Lapointe (born October 11, 1968 in Lachine , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 913 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Colorado Avalanche , Calgary Flames , New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers during his active career between 1985 and 2008 has contested in the National Hockey League on the position of the center .

Career

Lapointe spent his youth in his home province of Québec before moving to the 1985/86 season for the Draveurs de Trois-Rivières from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . There he played for two years before he was transferred within the league to the Titan de Laval . After his third game year in the LHJMQ he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the twelfth round in 234th place by the Nordiques de Québec from the National Hockey League . In his last junior year he finally won the league title, the Coupe du Président , and was thus represented in the subsequent Memorial Cup .

In the summer of 1989 the striker switched to the professional field. Initially, he was active in the Nordiques de Québec's franchise for the first two years, mainly for their farm team , the Halifax Citadels , in the American Hockey League . The attacker only made his NHL debut in the 1990/91 season , but was then an unrestricted regular player from the beginning of the 1992/93 season until the Nordiques were relocated after the 1994/95 season. At the beginning of the 1995/96 game year , Lapointe was then active for the Colorado Avalanche , as the team called itself after its relocation. After only three missions he was given in early November 1995 for a seven-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 to the Calgary Flames . There he came back for the first time in the AHL in the course of the season.

Since the Canadian's contract expired in the summer of 1996, he joined the New York Islanders as a free agent . Lapointe played there for the next seven years until he was given to the Philadelphia Flyers in March 2003 in exchange for a five-round vote in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft . He was active for the Flyers until the end of the 2003/04 season . He then ended his career at the age of 35. After a break of more than two years, the striker made a short comeback at SC Bern from the Swiss National League A in September 2006 , which ended after just four games. In the 2007/08 season he ran again in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey for the Caron & Guay de Trois-Rivières .

International

Lapointe played for his home country in the 1999 World Cup in Norway . He played ten tournament games for the Canadians and collected four scorer points. The team finished the tournament in fourth place and thus just outside the medal ranks.
