Boucher celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Pittsburgh Penguins by winning the Stanley Cup in 2009 .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his career with the Bisons de Granby in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , where he was promoted to one of the most important players in his first season, which meant that he was LHJMQ Rookie of the Year and LHJMQ All-Star Game .
In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , Boucher was selected ( drafted ) as 13th in the first round by the Buffalo Sabers and gained first experience in the National Hockey League in the 1992/93 season . However, the right-handed shooter did not succeed in playing his way into the regular Sabers squad, so he was repeatedly used in the American Hockey League with the Sabers farm team Rochester Americans until his move to the Los Angeles Kings during the 1994/95 season .
In Los Angeles, too, he repeatedly played in lower-class farm teams, Philippe Boucher completed his best season to date with the Kings in 2001/02 , when he scored seven goals and 24 assists in 85 games. After this season, the Canadian moved as a free agent to the Dallas Stars, where he was part of the permanent staff from the start. In 2007 Boucher was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game because of his good season performance , after the failure of Scott Niedermayer he was even in the starting lineup there. In November 2008, there was finally another transfer when he was sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Darryl Sydor . After winning the trophy of the same name for the first time in his career at the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2009 , he announced the end of his career in September of the same year at the age of 36.
After the end of his career, Boucher devoted himself to coaching and functionaries. From 2010 to 2012 he was General Manager of the Océanic de Rimouski from the LHJMQ. From 2013 to 2018 he was head coach and general manager of the Remparts de Québec in the same league . In 2013 he received the Maurice Filion trophy for best GM in the league.
