Vincent François Damphousse (born December 17, 1967 in Montréal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1518 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Edmonton Oilers , Canadiens de Montréal and San Jose Sharks during his active career between 1986 and 2004 has contested in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . Damphousse celebrated his greatest career success, winning four times in the NHL All-Star Gamewas invited to serve the Canadiens de Montréal, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 1993 .

Career

Damphousse was selected sixth in the first round in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs . He played five seasons for Toronto, with him in the 1989/90 season with 33 goals and 94 points, his best-scoring season in the Leafs' jersey. During the following season the striker was invited to the 1991 NHL All-Star Game . After his four goals in the game, Damphousse was also named the most valuable player of the event. In September 1991 he was given in one of the largest barter deals in NHL history by the Maple Leafs along with Peter Ing , Luke Richardson , Scott Thornton and a sum of money to the Edmonton Oilers . In return, Toronto received the current Hockey Hall of Fame members Glenn Anderson and Grant Fuhr , as well as Craig Berube .

In Edmonton, however, the striker only stayed one season and was transferred to the Canadiens de Montréal on August 27, 1992 in exchange for Shayne Corson . With his new team he won the Stanley Cup in the 1992/93 season . During the 1994/95 NHL season, which was shortened by a lockout , Damphousse completed eleven games in the German Ice Hockey League for the Ratinger Löwen . Damphousse played four more seasons for the team from his hometown, for which he went on the ice as team captain from 1996 , before he exchanged for a five-round draft pick for the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round draft pick during the 1998/99 season for the 2000 NHL Entry Draft to the San Jose Sharks . There, too, he acted as team captain for a short period of time and at times played in a row with Teemu Selänne or Owen Nolan .

In August 2004, the striker signed a one-year contract worth two million US dollars with the Colorado Avalanche , but the 2004/05 NHL season was completely canceled due to another lockout. The player did not go on the ice for any other team during this time and announced his retirement on September 7, 2005.

International

Damphousse represented his home country at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey . The striker was used in all eight Canadians games and scored two goals. He also received eight minutes of penalty. At the end of the competition, the team finished second after the United States had won the “best-of-three” series of finals.
