Patrick John Sharp (born December 27, 1981 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The left winger played over 1,000 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League between 2002 and 2018 . He spent most of his career in Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2009, 2013 and 2015 . With the Canadian national team , Sharp won the gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics and a silver medal at the 2008 World Cup .
Career
Patrick Sharp began his hometown career with the Thunder Bay Flyers in the United States Hockey League . He then continued his career at the University of Vermont . In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round as a total of 95th player.
From 2003 to 2005 he played again and again for both the Flyers and their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Philadelphia Phantoms . With 23 goals and 29 assists in 75 games, Sharp made a significant contribution to the Phantoms' Calder Cup win in the 2004/05 game year .
Together with Éric Meloche he was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks on December 5, 2005 for Matt Ellison . On January 17, 2008, Sharp signed a four-year contract until the end of the 2012/13 season .
On October 8, 2008, Sharp was named assistant captain along with Duncan Keith . He won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009/10 , 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons .
After a total of ten years and three Stanley Cup successes, he was handed over to the Dallas Stars in July 2015 together with Stephen Johns ; in return, the Blackhawks received Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt . Sharp stayed with the Texans for two seasons before signing a one-year free agent contract with his ex-Chicago club in July 2017 .
After the 2017/18 season, Sharp declared his active career over. In total, he had scored 707 points scorer in 1081 NHL games.
International
In the 2008 World Cup , the striker made his debut for Canada , just with the first world title bouts that at all in "the Hockey motherland" took place. In 2014 he became Olympic champion with the Canadian national team.
