Éric Meloche (born May 1, 1976 in Lachute , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the Cornwall River Kings from the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey . His father Gilles Meloche was a professional ice hockey player and for several NHL - franchises active.

Career

Meloche began his career in 1996 with the Ohio State University team , for which he was on the ice in the US college league Central Collegiate Hockey Association in the NCAA game operations . During the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 , the winger was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round in a total of 186th place. The right-handed shooter finished his studies and moved to the National Hockey League for the Penguins in 2000 , but they mostly used him on their farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . After he showed good performance there and was able to achieve 40 scorer points in 79 games in his first year, Meloche got the chance to prove himself in the NHL at the end of the 2001/02 season .

The then 25-year-old could not use his chance and was in the squad of the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the following years. In the four years that the attacker spent with the Penguins, he was used 51 games and scored 17 points.

For the 2004/05 season Éric Meloche signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phantoms , where he initially only played in the American Hockey League with the Philadelphia Phantoms. Two years later, the Canadian was also part of the Flyers' squad and played 49 NHL games. After he then figured out hardly any chances of a permanent engagement in the NHL, the right-handed shooter switched to the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League . In his first year with Bayern, Meloche developed into one of the top performers in the team and scored 40 points in 54 games.

At the end of the 2007/08 season , the management of the Tigers decided to continue tying the Canadian to the club and extended his contract by two years to 2010. On November 21, 2010, Meloche converted the winning penalty in the game against EHC Munich , what with a total of 42 attempts, is the longest penalty shootout in professional hockey history. Meloche's jersey and stick have since been in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto , where his father Gilles Meloche's goalkeeper mask can already be seen. After the 2010/11 season , the Straubing Tigers decided not to extend his expiring contract.
