Trevor Daley (born October 9, 1983 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League since July 2017 . The defender previously spent ten years with the Dallas Stars before winning the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017 .
Career
Daley was selected by the Dallas Stars in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft in the second round in 43rd place. In the 2003/04 season , the defender played his first games for the Stars. After the lockout , which he had spent in the American Hockey League , he was finally a regular player in the Texan metropolis. Prior to his NHL career, Daley had four seasons with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League Junior League , but left in 2003 after manager and coach John Vanbiesbrouck used a racist term when talking to team members.
In July 2015 - after twelve years in Dallas - the stars and Ryan Garbutt handed it over to the Chicago Blackhawks and received Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns in return . In Chicago, Daley only stayed until December of the same year, when he was given to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Rob Scuderi . With the Penguins, the defender won the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2015/16 season and repeated this success the following year. He then became a free agent and signed a deal with the Detroit Red Wings in July 2017 . In December 2018, he played his 1,000th regular season game in the NHL in the Red Wings jersey.
International
At the international level, Daley represented the Canadian selection at the 2006 World Cup . In the course of the tournament, the defender came to seven missions and scored one point.
