Tyler Bertuzzi (born February 24, 1995 in Sudbury , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League since October 2014 and plays for them on the position of the left winger . His uncle Todd Bertuzzi was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Bertuzzi spent his junior years between 2011 and 2015 with the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League , which had secured his rights through the OHL Priority Selection . The striker was able to increase his offensive production every year, although he missed large parts of the 2013/14 season. Nevertheless, he was significantly involved in winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup in the play-offs with 17 points scorer in 18 games . In the subsequent Memorial Cup he was the tournament's top scorer with five goals. In the 2014/15 season he set a new personal record with 98 points in 68 matches and was the tenth-best scorer in the entire league.
After the attacker had already been selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in 58th place by the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League , they had already signed him in October 2014 and put him in theirs after the OHL season ended Farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins , in the American Hockey League . In a total of nine missions Bertuzzi achieved 18 points. The season 2015/16 he spent entirely with the Griffins and was 71 times used. In November 2016, the Canadian was called up for the first time in the Detroit NHL squad and made his debut.
In the further course of the season he won the AHL playoffs for the Calder Cup with the Griffins and was honored with the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. As a result, the attacker established himself in the Red Wings squad and recorded over 20 goals and assists in the 2018/19 season.
International
Bertuzzi made his international debut in the jersey of the Canadian national team at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia , where he won the silver medal with the team.
