Patrik Nemeth (born February 8, 1992 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League since July 2019, where he plays the position of defender .
Career
Patrik Nemeth began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Hammarby. He then moved to AIK Solna in 2008 , with whose juniors he was champion of the U18 junior Allsvenskan in the 2008/09 season. He also made his debut for AIK's professional team in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan this season . In his only season appearance, he gave one assist. In the 2009/10 season, the defender prepared three goals in 16 games and rose to the Elitserien with AIK . The Swedish junior international was then selected in the KHL Junior Draft by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk , before the Dallas Stars selected him in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft as the 41st player.
In April 2011, Nemeth signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars. However, the defensive defender stayed at home for another season. In the fall of 2012, he finally made his debut for the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League . The Swede won the Calder Cup with the Texans in 2014 . Since the 2014/15 season, however, he has mainly been used in the NHL, but without being able to finally establish himself there.
As Nemeth should be re-sent in October 2017, the AHL, it obliged the Colorado Avalanche from the waiver .
In July 2019, Nemeth signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings .
