Adam Erne (born April 20, 1995 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League since August 2019 and plays for them in the position of left winger .
Career
Erne first spent his junior years between 2010 and 2011 with the Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League . After a year in the league, however, decided to continue his junior career in Canada . After he was selected in the entry draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec of 2011 by the Halifax Mooseheads , these transferred his rights to the league competitor Remparts de Québec . The striker was active for the team for the following four seasons until summer 2015. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in the second round in 33rd position by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League . They signed the attacker in April 2014 and at the end of the 2013/14 season let him play for the first time in the professional field with their farm team , the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League . For the 2014/15 season , Erne returned to Québec City and led the team into the final for the Coupe du Président , where the team lost to the Océanic de Rimouski . The American finished the play-offs as top scorer and second-best scorer, for which he received the Guy Lafleur trophy as most valuable player . In the subsequent Memorial Cup hosted by the Remparts, Erne was also the second best scorer behind the German Leon Draisaitl .
For the 2015/16 season , Erne moved permanently to the Tampa Bay Lightning franchise . This used him throughout the season but exclusively at the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. Only in the course of the 2016/17 season did the winger make his NHL debut for the Lightning after he was first appointed to their squad in early January 2017.
At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Erne established himself in the NHL Lightning squad and was not sent back to the AHL for the entire season. The following summer, his expiring contract in Tampa was, among other things, due to the tense salary situation ( salary cap ) , for the time being not extended before it in August 2019 in exchange for a fourth-round vote in the NHL Entry 2020 to the Detroit Red Wings was transferred. The Red Wings subsequently provided him with a new one-year contract.
International
For his home country, Erne played at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2014 . The teams with a seventh and a fifth place could not place in the medal ranks. Erne himself contributed five of the 14 goals of the Americans to the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
