Daniel Christopher "Danny" DeKeyser (* 7. March 1990 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player , who in March 2013 in the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League is under contract and for those on the position of the defender plays .
Career
youth
Danny DeKeyser was born in Detroit and grew up in Macomb , a town in Macomb County in the metropolitan area of Detroit . He attended De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren and has six siblings. In the junior area, however, he did not play for the pilots of his high school, but was active in the Compuware Youth Program from 2006 to 2008. He then left the Detroit area and joined the Trail Smoke Eaters from Trail in the Canadian British Columbia Hockey League . After spending the 2008/09 season there and scoring 25 points in 58 games, the defender moved back to the United States for the Sioux City Musketeers from the United States Hockey League , the highest US junior league.
Western Michigan University
After a year in Sioux City, he accepted a scholarship to Western Michigan University , began studying communications and then played for the Western Michigan Broncos in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). As a freshman , he was voted the team's second best defender on points and at the end of the season he was elected to the CCHA All-Rookie Team . His breakthrough came in the 2011/12 season when the team won the CCHA playoffs for the first time and he himself was named CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman and was elected to the CCHA Second All-Star Team . In addition, he was appointed to the NCAA (West) Second All-American Team ; a success that he was able to repeat the following year, as well as the award for best defensive defender. In 2013 he was also elected to the CCHA First All-Star Team . Despite all of these awards, DeKeyser was not selected in any NHL Entry Draft , so the Detroit Red Wings took the opportunity in March 2013 to sign him as a free agent .
Detroit Red Wings
Just one week after signing the contract, the defender made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) and made eleven appearances and one assist by the end of the season. He was also in two playoff games for the Red Wings on the ice before he was given to the Grand Rapids Griffins , the farm team of the Red Wings from the American Hockey League (AHL). DeKeyser also took part in the playoffs in Grand Rapids, played six games and subsequently won the Calder Cup with the team .
At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, the American had established himself in the Red Wings NHL line-up and scored 23 points in his rookie season, making him the second best defender of the Red Wings. After the season he was named Rookie of the Year by the Red Wings organization. He was also called up to the national team of the United States and as a result took part in the 2014 World Cup, in which the team finished sixth.
In the 2014/15 season, DeKeyser was on the ice in almost all games and led the entire league (in February 2015) in permitted scoring chances per game, so the opponent only had 19.6 scoring chances per game with him as a defender on the ice Game.
