Madison Bowey (born April 22, 1995 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League since February 2019 and plays for them in the position of defender . With the Washington Capitals , he won the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs .
Career
Junior Leagues
Bowey was selected in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft by the Kelowna Rockets in 23rd position. He played three games for the team towards the end of the season, in which he was able to book an assist. In the following season he scored a total of eight goals and 21 assists in 57 games (plus 3 balance and 39 penalty minutes). He scored an additional goal in the playoff series against the Portland Winterhawks . He also represented Team Canada West at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , where he scored a goal in five games. In the 2011/12 season he played 69 games in which he recorded 12 goals and 30 assists (plus 41 balance sheet). In the playoffs against the Seattle Thunderbirds and arch-rivals Kamloops Blazers , he scored an additional four goals in 11 matches.
In the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , Bowey was selected in the second round in a total of 53rd place by the Washington Capitals . The following year he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Capitals. In the 2014/15 season he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup of the WHL with the Rockets and thus took part in the Memorial Cup 2015 , where the team failed in the final to the Oshawa Generals . Bowey was appointed to the tournament's All-Star Team, just like in the regular WHL season.
Professional area
With the beginning of the 2015/16 season Bowey ran on with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League , the farm team of the Washington Capitals. After two full seasons in Hershey, he made his debut for the Capitals in the National Hockey League in October 2017 . At the end of the 2017/18 season , the Capitals won the Stanley Cup , but the defender was not used in the playoffs. But since he played more than half of the regular season games, his name was immortalized on the trophy. Ultimately, the defender remained an integral part of the capital city squad until February 2019, before he was transferred to the Detroit Red Wings together with a second-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . In return, they gave Nick Jensen and a five-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2020 as compensation to the caps .
International
During the 2012/13 season, Bowey played for the Canadian national ice hockey team at both the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 and the 2013 U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship ; at both tournaments he won the gold medal. In 2015 he took part in the World Cup in his own country with the U20 national team and won the gold medal there with the team.
