Nick Jensen (born September 21, 1990 in Saint Paul , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League since February 2019 and plays for them in the position of defender .
Career
Jensen spent his junior years in the United States Hockey League with the Green Bay Gamblers between 2008 and 2010 . With these he won the Clark Cup at the end of his rookie season . In addition, he was selected during the summer break in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the fifth round as the 150th player overall by the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League . After his second year in the USHL, the 19-year-old did not switch to the professional field, but instead enrolled at St. Cloud State University . In addition to his studies, he worked for the university's ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for the next three years until spring 2013 . During this time, the defender made it to numerous selection teams and was also named Defensive Player of the Year in the WCHA.
In May 2013, Jensen finally signed a two-year professional contract with the Red Wings, ending his studies early. Due to a rupture of the glenoid labrum in preparation for the 2013/14 season, his professional debut was delayed until December 2013, which he gave for the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL . family
Jensen comes from a family who loves ice hockey. While his father Jeff was selected in the tenth round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft in 178th place by the Colorado Rockies , but did not play in the professional field after graduating from college, his uncle Steve Jensen played 450 games for the Minnesota North Stars and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League . In addition, he represented the US National Team from 1975 to 1979 in four world championships , the 1976 Canada Cup and the 1976 Winter Olympic Games in the Austrian Innsbruck .
