Reid Cashman (born March 14, 1983 in Red Wing , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . Since August 2018 he has been the assistant coach of the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League .

Career

Reid Cashman played on the Red Wing high school team as a teenager. After graduating from school, he was active in the 2002/03 season for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League . He then ran for the ice hockey team of Quinnipiac University and appeared in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , especially as a template provider (23 goals and 125 assists in 151 games). In 2005 he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award . Upon graduation, Cashmann, who had not been drafted , signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs . He was sent to the farm team and was initially used for the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League . The following season he spent mostly with Columbia Inferno in the ECHL . There he posted 39 scorer points in a total of 54 games .

In the following two years Cashman went on the ice for Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins and the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL and worked for the Wheeling Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL. The greatest success he achieved here in the 2009/10 season by winning the Kelly Cup , when he defeated the Idaho Steelheads in five games with the Cyclones in the final series . The defensive player then signed the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga .

In 2011, Cashman decided to end his active career and gain a foothold as a coach. His way back to the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University , where he had been under contract as an active player for four years. There he first acted as an assistant coach before taking over the position of head coach for the 2015/16 season. He then returned to the professional field in the 2016/17 season by taking over as assistant coach at the Hershey Bears . Within the organization, Cashman was promoted to Assistant Washington Capitals in August 2018 .
