Nicholas "Nic" Dowd (born May 27, 1990 in Huntsville , Alabama ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League since July 2018 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Dowd played during his junior years until 2010 with the St. Louis Bandits and Wenatchee Wild in the North American Hockey League and the Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the seventh round in 198th position by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League . In the summer of 2010, the striker signed up for St. Cloud State University and until spring 2014 played for the university's ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference , both divisions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations . During this time Dowd received numerous awards, especially for his academic achievements paired with his athletic talent.
In April 2014 Dowd finally signed his first professional contract with the Kings, who first used him with the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League until the spring of 2015 . With the team he won the prestigious Calder Cup at the end of the 2014/15 game year . The following season he spent with Los Angeles' new farm team Ontario Reign . During the 2015-16 season , the striker made his NHL debut for Los Angeles. For the 2016/17 season he established himself in the Kings line-up and received a regular place.
In December 2017, the Kings gave him to the Vancouver Canucks and received Jordan Subban in return . In July 2018, Dowd signed a one-year free agent contract with the Washington Capitals .
