John Garnet Hathaway (born November 23, 1991 in Naples , Florida ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League since July 2019 . The right winger previously spent four years in the Calgary Flames organization .

Career

Hathaway was born in Naples , Florida , but grew up in Kennebunkport , Maine . He spent the last two years of school between 2008 and 2010 at the Phillips Academy . From there he enrolled at Brown University in the summer of 2010 . The winger studied there for four years and played for the university's ice hockey team in ECAC Hockey , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There he completed 121 games by the spring of 2014, in which he collected 58 scorer points .

After completing his studies, Hathaway, who had not been considered in the NHL Entry Draft , was signed by the Abbotsford Heat from the American Hockey League . There he completed his first professional assignments during the remainder of the 2013/14 season . In the following season, the attacker ran after the resettlement of the team for the Adirondack Flames . With the farm team of the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League , the American could recommend himself for an NHL contract during the season. Hathaway received this in April 2015 with a term of two years. Initially, however, the striker remained in the farm team, which, after moving again, now took part in the game as Stockton Heat . In late February 2016, Hathaway finally made his NHL debut and stayed in the squad until the end of March. In the course of the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons , he completed more and more missions for the Flames before finally being on the ice in Calgary in the 2018/19 season. After this season, his expiring contract was not extended, so he joined the Washington Capitals as a free agent .
