Kennebunkport is a small town in York County, Maine , United States with 3,474 residents (2010 census). Kennebunkport is known as the summer residence of former US President George HW Bush .
Initially called Arundel, the area was visited by fishermen in the summer as early as 1602. Continuous settlement began in 1629 with Richard Vines. Part of Maine since 1653, the name was changed to Kennebunkport in 1821. The city center is located on the Kennebunk River , about one and a half kilometers from its confluence with the Atlantic. Originally a fishing and shipbuilding village, it has been a popular seaside resort for over a century. The prominent vacation destination of the affluent is considered one of the most expensive vacation spots in the northeastern United States.
Attractions
Kennebunkport has a small neighborhood with souvenir shops, art galleries, restaurants and inns. The Seashore Trolley Museum has existed in the city since 1939 and exhibits mass transportation from several decades. Other sights in the center are the First Congregational Church and Notts House. The most beautiful sandy beach is Goose Rocks Beach north of Walkers Point, the summer home of the George HW Bush presidential family.
