The main house

The Bush estate , originally Walker's Point , is the summer residence of the 41st President of the United States, George HW Bush . It is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean in the south of the state of Maine , near the town of Kennebunkport . The property has been a family retreat for over a century.

The property was bought by George H. Walker , a St. Louis banker in the late 19th century; he built the villa in 1903. He later sold the property to his daughter Dorothy Walker Bush and her husband Prescott Bush , since then it has belonged to the Bush family.

Their son, former President George HW Bush, spent much of his childhood there and later inherited the property from his parents. Bush spent most of the summers at the property with his wife, Barbara, and children, George , Jeb , Neil , Marvin , Dorothy, and Robin , and weddings, holidays, and receptions were also celebrated there. Bush received top politicians such as Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev at informal and private meetings in the building, also known as the “Summer White House” . Today, the Bush spend the most time at Tanglewood in Houston ( Texas ).

Former President George W. Bush visits the Kennebunkport estate regularly with his family; in 2007 he received Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Nicolas Sarkozy here .

The property is on a headland in the Atlantic called Walker's Point . The main house is designed in the " shingle style ", a variant of the Queen Anne style. It has nine bedrooms, four living rooms, an office, a library, a dining area and a kitchen. In addition to the main house there is a garage for four cars, a swimming pool as well as a boat and guest house.

At the entrance to the site there is a gate that is guarded by the Secret Service .
