Career

Richard Pánik began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the MHC Martin , where he was active until 2006. He then moved to the youth department of HC Oceláři Třinec , for whose professional team he was on the ice from 2007 to 2009 in the Czech extra league . Subsequently, the winger was selected in the third round of the KHL Junior Draft in the third round as a total of 69th player by Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg and in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the second round as the 52nd player of the Tampa Bay Lightning . The Slovak finally decided on the Tampa Bay Lightning offer and went to North America, where he was active from 2009 to 2011 for the Windsor Spitfires , Belleville Bulls and Guelph Storm in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . He also played five games for Tampa's farm team Norfolk Admirals from the American Hockey League in the 2009/10 season , for which he played exclusively in the 2011/12 season. He spent the following season at the same time with the Lightning and their new farm team, the Syracuse Crunch . For the 2013/14 season , Pánik then made the permanent jump into the NHL squad.

In October 2014, the Lightning wanted to send him to Syracuse via the waiver , although he was obliged by the Toronto Maple Leafs . In the 2014/15 season, the Slovak completed 76 NHL games for the Maple Leafs, but was unable to defend this regular place in the following season and was given to the Toronto Marlies in October 2015 . After he was not called back to the NHL squad in the first half of the season, the Maple Leafs gave him to the Chicago Blackhawks in January 2016 , with Jeremy Morin moving to Toronto in return .

After two years in Chicago, the attacker and Laurent Dauphin were transferred to the Arizona Coyotes in January 2018 , with the Blackhawks receiving Anthony Duclair and Adam Clendening . In Arizona, Pánik was active until the end of the 2018/19 season when he signed a four-year contract with Washington Capitals as a free agent in July 2019 , which should earn him an average annual salary of $ 2.75 million.

International

For Slovakia , Pánik took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2008 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad for the first time at the 2010 World Cup in Germany . Further nominations followed for the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2014 , 2015 and 2019 World Championships .
