Jeremy Morin (born April 16, 1991 in Auburn , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has had free agent status since October 2018 and to date, among other things, 84 games for the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets in National Hockey League and 337 others in the American Hockey League on the position of left winger . At international level, Morin was both U18 and U20 world champion and won with the men's national team in the year2015 bronze medal at the World Cup.

Career

youth

Jeremy Morin was born into an athletic family, with his three-year-old brother Chad Morin and cousin JD Forrest also professional ice hockey players. He himself therefore began playing ice hockey at the age of four and subsequently went through the youth departments of the Syracuse Junior Stars from Syracuse . In the Eastern Junior Hockey League he was named Rookie of the Year after the 2006/07 season and then moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) in Ann Arbor , the central talent factory in the United States. So he took the same path as his brother and cousin before him.

In the NTDP, Morin played cross-league games against teams from the NAHL , United States Hockey League and NCAA . In addition, the junior teams of the NTDP also act as the U18 and U20 national teams of the USA, so that he already took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the U18 World Championship in 2008, where he won bronze and silver medals. In addition, the attacker was the top scorer in both tournaments with six hits each. In the following year he became the U18 junior world champion with the U18 team and scored the most of his team in regular match play with the U18s with 33 goals and 59 points . With these achievements, Morin also made for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft 2009 for attention, so that he was led in the final reports of the Central Scouting Services in 33rd position of the North American field players. In the actual draft he was then selected in 45th position by the Atlanta Thrashers .

The American then retired from the NTDP due to old age and now had the choice of continuing his ice hockey career either at a university or college in the United States or in a Canadian junior league. He decided on the second and joined the Kitchener Rangers from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the 2009/10 season . There he took part in the OHL All-Star Game and was appointed to the OHL Second All-Star Team ; He also represented the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2010 and won another gold medal there.

Chicago Blackhawks

After the 2009/10 season, Morin signed an entry-level contract with the Atlanta Thrashers . Only a few weeks later, however, he was handed over with Marty Reasoner , Joey Crabb and two voting rights for the NHL Entry Draft 2010 to the Chicago Blackhawks , who in turn sent Dustin Byfuglien , Ben Eager , Akim Aliu and Brent Sopel to Atlanta. Chicago had recently won the Stanley Cup and was forced to give up established players in order not to exceed the salary cap . Morin was initially given to the Rockford IceHogs , the farm team of the Blackhawks from the American Hockey League (AHL), but made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) after eight games in the AHL in November 2010 . This was followed by a constant change between AHL and NHL squad, which was only interrupted by the U20 World Cup in 2011 , in which the attacker and the team won the bronze medal. In January 2011, Morin's first professional season ended prematurely when he suffered a concussion in the game against the Chicago Wolves .

In the following two seasons Morin came to only three missions with the Blackhawks, but developed into a reliable scorer with the IceHogs. In the 2013/14 season he achieved a personal best of 47 scorer points in 47 games in the AHL, which not only made him the AHL player of the month February, but also played 24 games in the NHL and scored 11 points; he also made his playoff debut for the Blackhawks. His contract was then extended for another two years in June 2014. In the following season 2014/15 Morin managed for the first time to establish himself in Chicago's NHL squad, so he came to 15 NHL and only 3 AHL appearances by December 2014. On December 14, however, he was given in exchange for Tim Erixon to the Columbus Blue Jackets ; he left the organization of the Blackhawks after a little over four years and as the record scorer in the history of the Rockford IceHogs (81 hits by December 2014).

Morin was also part of the NHL squad for the Blue Jackets and had 28 games and six points scorer by the end of the 2014/15 season. He then represented his home country at senior level for the first time, winning the bronze medal at the world championships . He returned to Chicago in June 2015 when he was transferred to the Blackhawks along with Marko Daňo , Artyom Anissimow , Corey Tropp and a four-round suffrage for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . In return, the Blue Jackets went to Brandon Saad , Alex Broadhurst and Michael Paliotta . Although Morin ended the season with 28 NHL appearances for the Blackhawks, he was given back to the Rockford IceHogs in preparation for the 2015/16 season.

Toronto, San Jose, Tampa and Arizona

After Morin had only been used by the IceHogs in the first half of the 2015/16 season, he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs in January 2016 ; in return, Richard Pánik moved to Chicago. The Maple Leafs also used him exclusively for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL, before he was handed over to the San Jose Sharks together with James Reimer in February 2016 . In return, the Maple Leafs received Ben Smith , goalkeeper Alex Stalock and a four-round vote for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft , which becomes a third-round vote if San Jose reaches the Stanley Cup final of the same year. The Sharks succeeded in doing this.

After the 2015/16 season, Morin's contract in San Jose was not renewed, so he joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent in July 2016 . There he was active in the AHL for the Syracuse Crunch until the end of February 2017 , before he was given to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Stefan Fournier . There he was part of the cadre of the Tucson Roadrunners farm team .

Moved to Russia and Switzerland

After the 2016/17 season, Morin received no further contract in the NHL, so he decided to move to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk from the Continental Hockey League in August 2017 . After three games without a scorer point, Morin was sacked in September 2017. He then played for a short time each for the South Carolina Stingrays and for the HPK Hämeenlinna . From December 2017 to January 3, 2018, Morin played temporarily at SC Bern . He then moved to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers , with whom he rose from the Swiss League to the National League in 2018 and won the Swiss Cup . At the beginning of the 2019/19 season he played three games for the Hershey Bears in the AHL through a trial contract . A long-term commitment did not develop from this.
